The Israeli filmmaker Avi Mograbi sets up screens for an installation in a museum, gives a master class for young cinema students or watches some of his films again at home. Mograbi Cinema is a portrait of a provocative, ironic moraliser who, in films ranging from How I learned to Overcome my Fear and Love Ariel Sharon to Z32, upsets the codes of documentary films to better capture the ’monsters’ that haunt Israeli society.

(English) Blancanieves triumphs at the Goya Awards |

Pablo Berger |
|
|
The 27th Goya Awards (The Spanish Film Academy Awards) ceremony was held on 17 February, with Pablo Berger’s Blancanieves, shown for the first time in France at the 34th Cinemed, being the major favourite with 18 nominations.
Pablo Berger’s second full-length feature, co-produced by the Frenchman Jérôme Vidal of Noodles Production, won 10 Goya prizes. This audacious silent black and white rendering of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves set in Andalusia, won Goya prizes including those for the Best Film and the Best Original Screenplay. The Goya for the Best Leading Actress went to Maribel Verdú for her unforgettable performance as the wicked stepmother and the Goya for Best New Actress went deservedly to Macarena García.
We warmly congratulate Pablo Berger, whose talent and tenacity have been rewarded - it took more than eight years to complete the funding for the film. Blancanieves was released in French cinemas on 23 January and is still being shown.
